Bom, desde que entreguei meu App eu recebo alguns emails da Cultural Care, com dicas, informações, essas coisas... Vou colocar um aqui pra vocês verem também, e depois vou postar outros! :)

You would never leave your host child in the house alone, right? It might surprise you to know that ideas about leaving a child unattended can be very different in America than in some other cultures. Americans tend to be more nervous than parents in some other countries about their children being left “alone”. What you might think is ok might NOT be ok for some American parents. Even if you find each other’s ideas a little strange, remember that in coming to America, you will be expected to live with an American’s ideas of appropriate supervision for the children. What does this mean?

• Small children can never be left on a changing table or in a bath even for a few seconds.
• Your host parents will expect you to avoid spending time on the computer or phone while responsible for the children. Of course you can answer the phone (unless for instance the kids are in the bath) but don’t expect to have a long chat with your friend if you are working.
• Americans never leave a child in a stroller away from the adult. For instance if in a grocery store, one would never leave the child in one aisle and go to the next aisle to get something quickly.
• Many Americans no longer let their children play in the yard by themselves anymore. Make sure you get clear instructions if your host parents let their children walk to school by themselves, play in the yard alone or walk to a friend’s house alone. They may feel more comfortable having you present even at these times.
• No American would leave a child in a car unattended. For instance, if you forgot something in the house after putting the children in the car, it would never be acceptable to leave them there to run in the house.
  

Sometimes these things might seem a little silly, but you should know that nothing will upset a host parent more than the idea that their child has been left alone for any length of time. We think that the best idea is to have an open discussion early on with your host parents about what is allowed and not allowed – ask for specific examples. Be prepared to always have an eye on the kids!
